Ulster Choral Society

The Choral Union is a gathering of the combined forces of the Ulster Choral Society and the Camerata Chorale – each 50 to 60 members strong. Generally in the spring of each season the combined choirs invite other singers, those who cannot normally commit to a full season of singing with either group, to perform an acknowledged masterwork in the repertoire.

Now approaching its sixth gathering the Choral Union will present Johann Sebastian Bach’s monumental Mass in b minor in April 2008. Accompanied by the Bach-Handel Festival Orchestra and five professional soloists, the Choral Union will once again be open to area singers who can commit to a rehearsal schedule from January 14, 2008 until the concert weekend of April 25 - 27, 2008.

Singers who have sung in previous Choral Union programs, or who are vocally known to the Director, do not need to audition for the next concert series. All others will need to audition at the discretion of the Director.

Interested singers need choral experience with moderately difficult to difficult music and should be familiar with ensemble singing. All Choral Union participants need to fill out an application/information form to be retained by the organization in order to create a roster of names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mails. This information will not be shared outside the organization.

Rehearsals are every Monday evening from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m. (during the time frame listed above) at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wurts and Rogers Streets, Kingston, New York. Singers may make up missed rehearsals by attending a Tuesday evening rehearsal of the Camerata Chorale. Attendance is very important in this program. Singers are required to mark their scores according to distributed information. Section Leaders will assist new members in marking their scores.

* Singers who audition must remain for the rehearsal that follows which is a part of the audition for membership. No appointment is necessary.
